My best friend’s older brother was REALLY into dirt bikes when I was a kid. Thus I was full of envy for want of a Mongoose and was constantly watching Rad. Yep, this movie*:
So, understandably, I am very excited about the new Brooklyn Bike Park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. You can rent bikes there for $10 an hour and there are different courses. The design includes a raingarden to help with drainage. This could be a fun outing once the heat and humidity stop being so out of control.
From their website:
Brooklyn’s first free and legal mountain bike park and pump track…
Brooklyn Bike Park is a free, family oriented bicycle course which offers a basic skills training area for children, novices, and intermediate riders, as well as an advanced pump track for the more skilled riders. The bike park is run by Ride Brooklyn bike shop, in partnership with the New York City Mountain Bike Association. Brooklyn Bike Park offers a fleet of bikes for rent and also offers weekly beginner and intermediate classes for both children and adults.

Cool post. Never thought I will see that in NYC.
Thanks!
Lol! That’s awesome; I’ll have to check Rad out! Does it really not hold up for adults? The trailer looks fun: “The world would be a lot better off… without… kids!”
The bike movie I grew up with was Breaking Away, a “1979 American coming of age comedy-drama film. … Dave is obsessed with competitive bicycle racing, particularly the Italians, because he recently won a Masi bicycle.” Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1jzs6dk4bs
*shudder* Krull…
You should watch it and let me know! I did see Breaking Away once, but racing seemed way tamer than dirt bikes, so it didn’t really intrigue me as much
