Attention all historic preservation buffs and design nerds: the mapper, app developer, and fellow blogger Spatiality has just released the updated Landmarks: New York app for iPhone last week.
In honor of the New York Landmarks Conservancy’s 40th Anniversary this year, Spatiality collaborated with the New York Landmarks Conservancy, to make some pretty awesome updates to their Landmarks app. The main updates include:
- the app has a bright new logo featuring the iconic Chrysler Building;
- an updated the list of landmarks through March 2013 based on the latest NYC designations (the number is now above 1,400);
- several landmark descriptions and locations have been corrected based on user feedback; and
- some new features such as an immersive Street View option for each landmark
The Street View option is pretty neat, too. It provides helpful street-level context if you’re planning a visit to the historic landmark, and for some of the sites, Street View will even take you right inside the building. Check out the Frick, the Cloisters, and the Met Museum to see an example!
IF you’re interested in downloading the app, here’s the iTunes App Store link.
